Default Yet another "I had a bad night" thread..

The wife called me last night that when she was closing the garage door something broke and its stuck and crooked. Well I get home and yup - its broke alright. Getting thru the garage to have a look at it, not an easy task since the garage is well packed and she just put in a dresser she found on the side of the road I found one of the lift cables had snapped. Now my garage door is OLD and HEAVY. Its at least an inch thick and solid wood and two cars wide. I had to use my floor jack to lift up the broken side so I could get it level out and then I took the jack out to close it up for the night.

Today I go to the local garage door shop and they gave me a new cable for free! Now thats customer service! It took me about an hour to install it. Its working again but I do need to re-tension the two wound coil springs.

Speaking from personal experience, re-tensioning those springs is going to be just TON'* O' FUN!

Bummer!

I hope you got those springs wound up OK. I was going to suggest that you wear eye protection when you do it. A family friend once almost lost his eye when a spring broke while he was rewinding a garage door spring. True story!

Those springs always seem to break at the least opportune time.
