I prefer my HDMI over component and the 360 pro'* / elites / hlao3 units come w/ HDMI port.
Do not buy a crap cable as it will be just that.
goto firefold.com and grab one there,even the cheaper ones work great,one I bought off ebay sucked hard.

X360 will upscale DVD'* to whatever res over HDMI, but only do 480p over component cables. If it'* your DVD player and you're not using VGA, HDMI will give the best picture.
Monoprice.com has TOP level cables, for dirt cheap. Hi-Fi guys, AV hounds, etc all love them. Check it out.

false. the blue and green component cables can run up to 1080i. i know this for a fact as its the current setup im workign with. you need to cahnge it in your xbox dashboard as well as on the back of your 360 system on the cable

it doesnt sound like J Wikoff is too concerned with the dvd quality of the system though... i still agree with toasty. as far as i can visually tell, 1080p is the only resolution benefited by hdmi, in the gaming aspect of the system.

No, I don't plan on using the 360 to play DVDs as I've got an upscaling Sony player. With the 360 supplied component cables and the switch set to HD, I'm seeing a little bit of ghosting at 1080i. I never see any ghosting with my original xbox on component or with the DVD player on HDMI. That'* why I want to try the HDMI.

It'* part of the DVD license on the X360, it req'* it be output @ 480P or less if there'* no copy protection involved, the HDMI output is HDCP controlled, and IIRC the VGA port will do DVD upconverting resolutions as well.
