Today I was going to check my oil cause I still have that slight oil leak in the head gasket so I go for the hood release pull it and snap the cable breaks and now I cannot get under the hood of my car and I know I need anti-freeze and oil badly. I have no clue how to get under my hood now.......... cut a hole in the top was my dads idea so i can get oil in it lol but theres gotra be another way I can get under the hood right?

you have to pull the cable somehow. Or take it to a shop.

This is probably a really good question to ask on a Contour forum, since we know nothing about your car.

Can you get to the cable with a pair of vice grips maybe?

Think the cable is snapped or stretched? I can still hear the cable moveing when pulled up by the latch.......most likly I have to smash in the ftront grill like they said at the contour forums then replace it with a junkyard one

Well I got my hood open but my front grill is so messed up I smashed so much plastic in there and then took the bolts out that holds the latch thing in place now it only has the safty latch holding the hood down and looks like crap without the grill and scratched up the bumper a bit but I have a oil leak and needed anti-freeze and it was urgent so I'd rather have a cosmetically crappy looking car rather than a broken down car that does no good!!

Default holy hood-opening, Batman!

hey dude, glad to hear yur hood opened but too bad you had to smash yur grill to get at it(and scratch yur bumper?). i hope you used a rubber mallet or something non-steel? sounds like you didnt. but since you have it open now, worry more about yur oil and coolant problem than the cosmetic thing,k. ya cant drive something that'* dead on the road from overheating. good luck on it

Ride on,
