As you know, i just recently got me a another '84 tempo glx, that has been sitting for the last 10 years. i hear it was put down because the rack and pinion is leaking like crazy, and the people didnt feel it was worth putting more money into it, so they just gave them the title and keys, and called it quits. the alternator was stolen out of it, and the starter relay is missing <$13 @ autozone>. i am going to get a starter relay for it, along with pulling sparkplugs, and shooting oil in the cylinders and cleaning spark plugs as necessary. will pull air filter if that causes drama. also gonna dump some gas in the tank, and get some in the carb. what do you guys think, will it start? vote in the poll.

Option 1: It will start with minimal effort.
Option 2: It will take a while, but will eventually sputter to life
Option 3: You will notice that little things need to be done to get it to start, but it will come to life eventually
Option 4: It will keep promising to start, but never will
Option 5: It will keep promising to start, and will seem like little thing, but eventually will prove to be a waste of time and money
Option 6: It will not start, and you will know it right away <example, engine seized, etc.>

So vote now. will see what my parents are up to today, because the car is at their house.

A helpful tip my dad passed to me:

When dealing with an engine that had been sitting for a long time, sometimes changing the oil before startup isn't enough. Take out the sparkplugs and put maybe a tablespoons worth of trans fluid in there, and let it set overnight. This will lubricate the rings and penetrate them in case they seized into the chambers. Handcrank the engine first, just to make sure it really isn't locked up, then use the electric starter w/o ignition...basically just crank w/o the plugs to free up anything that may be stuck, plus to build up oil pressure and get some new oiil flowing.

what i was going to do was just drop some oil into the cylinders. the oil is black, but still appears to be oil none the less. cranking by hand? it is kinda hard to get a bar on the balancer, not enough room. prolly just gonna pull spark plugs and drop oil in, maybe wait a while, turn the key, if i get turnage then move on.
