Just don't tell the GF what happened... or she'll never let me work on cars again... lol

There’* a guy that lives 5 minutes from me that lost his wife do to both of the jack stands failing while she was underneath his truck helping him. So he sued the jack stand company and won 3.4 million for his loss. But get this the inspector of the “crime seen” determined that it was not the fault of the jack company but the fault of the one that placed them under the truck, which was the husband. So the man was taken to court and was questioned about his wife’* death, but of course he got out of it. Now he drives brand new Hummers every year to show off his money. Her family tries to bring up the case every now and then, but with all his money now he hires really good lawyers and wins every time.

So make sure you not only use both jack stands but also be careful on how you place them.

If I am under there and require the car to be lifted, I always have the car on jackstands 9 times out of 10, but I leave the jack under there barely touching the lift point, so if the stand or stands go, the jack is there.

I'm the same way generally speaking. Glad I'm not the only paranoid one.

For oil changes and the like I have been using ramps... I figure as long as I position the car right they are just as good as jack stands...

ramps for me as well.


speaking of which I need to get those back from a friend that "borrowed" them.

I prefer ramps for oil changes...now if I only had a set of ramps :(
