I always got good and cutting it short in the Nova whenever I had a phone and was driving it. Needing two hands to operate two parts of the car will do that.

I don't know. People are also distracted by things like cd players, etc. Should those be banned too? There is always giong to be somebody that can't concentrate on the road because of something.

and i really do agree with you, but IMO it seems that more and more accidents nowadays are because of people, young & old, who are on the cell phone talkin it up! and a lot of the times b/c of that they speed OR DRIVE REALLY FREAKIN SLOW! to a point that i wish i had a POS car that i could just tap the rear end to get them goin... well that might scare little susie and make her crash into a parked car er something.
i dunno its a subject that i get into b/c i wish everyone had common sense when it came to driving... also a little off topic.. i thought <- that meant the other person traveling onthe major highway had the right-a-way?? oh wait.. boca people dont have to follow those silly laws!!

I agree. I don't really like people chatting on their cellphones while driving either. Just was saying an argument FOR cellphone use. If they can drive while talking, great. But unfortunately most people don't know how to, or can't, drive safely while talking. It is for that reason that cellphones probably should not be allowed during driving. Did you know that vehicles with onstar also have built in phones so that the person you're talking to'* voice is broadcast through your car'* speakers on the car, and you talk via a microphone that'* built into the rear view mirror? It'* a pretty awesome feature.

The only fender bender i've been in was because i was distracted in a conversation with others in the car.

Come to think of it, people need to get of their phones more in general and live life. I think more people walk out campus buildings on phones, then without them.

I'm really torn on the cell phone thing. There are a lot of people that can't talk and drive, but there are a lot that can. I am not entirely sure if hands free is the answer either. Admit it, most of you drive with only one hand on the wheel anyway. So the only real "extra" distraction is the person you are talking to.

Logan is right. This is what I have been saying [or at least thinking]. It is not the holding the phone that is the problem, but the conversation. It is the thinking of whatever it is you are talking about. Talking on a cell phone is just as bad as carrying on a conversation with a passenger. Maybe slightly more with a cell phone because you are holding it.. but if you have a hands-free setup, they are going to be equal. Seriously, what is different about talking on a hands-free equiped cell phone, and talking with a passenger? Other than the differing conversation topics [some being stressful, others being happy.. I think you know what I mean], they are equal.
