What's the fastest car you ever driven?
about the BMW'*: my friend and his dad are HARDCORE BIMMER FANS!! they have a 95 M3 with 20,000 mi(3L inline 6 240hp), a '97 850Ci woth less than 10,000mi(5.7 L V12!!), a '98 MRoadster(3L I6 240hp), and a 2003 M5(5.0 V8 394hp). he also has 12 BMW bikes, which I don't know anything about so I really can't go into detail. when they bought the M5, they got to go to an all expenses paid trip to spartanburg, SC for the "M" driving experience, which is a full road course, drift course and many other fun stuff. oh yeah the choices of cars are: M3'*, M5'*, MCoupes, MRoadsters, X5'*, smaller 3-series cars, and 540i sports(basically a lesser M5).
but jim, have you actually done 140 in the aurora? ive been up to 139 in mine
on a closed track OF COURSE........

Those M5'* are amazing. They don't make those anymore do they? All I see is M3'*.
yeah they still make them. in fact theres a new design for 05 (i believe) and i think that the new M5 motor is supposed to be a 5.0(?) V10 with 500 hp. trying to keep up with the 04 E55s, which will give an unsuspecting Z06 driver a run for their money.

Well, this is kinda crazy, but the fastest car I've ridden in was a Dodge Omni -of course one of the 500 modified by Carrol Shelby (1986 Shelby GLHS Edition Omni -GLHS meaning Goes Like Hell, Shelby) and then after that another $25k+ was invested. It was capable of hitting the rev limiter in 5th gear (of a totally custom trans) from a stand still in less than 20 seconds, which was all of 173 mph. The guy that owned it lives in Minneapolis just sold it and here-say is that he got over $35k + for it -I personally have witnessed true automotive enthusiasts/collectors offer him $20-25K at shows and he'd just smile and laugh and say, "Nope!" THe fastest we went when I was in it was 120 and we got there damn quick (he wanted me to touch the dash board and I almost couldn't under acceleration).
As for the fastest I've been in a car it was in my 1988 Lebaron Convertable. I was racing a 2000 Corvette and although I lost I was only 200rpm short of the red-line and could have gotten there, but I started thinking about not having a roll bar and I had the convertable top down. Speedo only reads up to 125 so I had to calculate the gear size, tire size, and rpms (actually Ed Peters, and old Chrysler engineer, did it for me) we figured out that I had been in the immediate vicinity of 157-159mph.
