Another way of saying it "Saving face".

Lots of money in the Airline business today; a huge amount of speculation has been going on making airline stocks, a typical loser, valued more than safe businesses like Coke. The big boys need to complete the dump their airline stocks before real bad news can be published to the public.

If it was money, why Malaysia Airlines? They are a nobody. Nobody here in the US invests in them. I could understand if it was AA, or USAir. So why would the US try to cover it up?

Oh, I just figured it out. The pilots and crew are defecting to the US and they want to turn over the newly designed 777 that propels itself with its nearly silent propulsion system called a 'caterpillar'. The Russians designed it.

A successful act of terror in an aircraft will cause major paper losses to all airlines. That is what happened at 9/11, huge losses in airline stocks. The exposure now is much worse, as airline stocks are overpriced, like houses were right before the sub-prime mortgage collapse.

All of Wall Street is wet their pants with the huge and easy money they have made in airline stocks over the past year. Wall Street bankers will not be bag-holders. I assure you Wall Street has been dumping their airline stocks over the last week to government pension funds. A very dirty business Wall Street is.

i dont think money was the cause just saying what ever the cause ends up being, they want time to spin it the way that causes the least amount of blowback

So it all boils down to whether or not Starbucks renews their lease to have a store in the Pentagon. Got it.

It is pretty clear now that there was some kind of takeover of the plane as transponders were switched off before the last voice transmission. That transmission did not reveal any strain according to the accounts though so much has been retracted and denied. It looks like the pilot(*) may be behind it. Maybe a suicide. Looks like it will be very hard to find as it is likely in the South Indian Ocean somewhere. Though it may have landed somewhere and if it did not crash the emergency locator would not go off. If all systems were shut down there would be no pinging either.

Interesting article written by a pilot speculating the media is wrong and the plane suffered a electrical fire: A Startlingly Simple Theory About the Missing Malaysia Airlines Jet | Autopia | Wired.com

Interesting theory about the fire but I would think that the pilot would have declared an in-flight emergency on backup radios?. There was no hint of a problem on the last transmission. If there was a catastophic fire I would have thought it would have brought the plane down quickly. Again if there was a catastophic fire I would have thought that the pilot might have landed in the ocean though I know that a landing at a airport is almost always better. As I remember there are more than one radio and the radios are on separate circuits. I am not familiar with the 777 but someone said that there are 10 generators on the plane and several separate electrical busses. As I remember from my experiences in 737( very old) there were two VHF trancievers and one HF transciever on independent circuits and antennas. I would expect the same redundancy on a 777 at least. There is some evidence of a twisting course, not one directly to the 13,000 foot airstrip in question. Why would the pilot leave the plane on auto pilot if there was a question of circuit problems or electrical fire? Anyway there are a few of the too many questions that I have for the fast moving electrical fire theory. Of course there have been so many reversal of the bits of evidence that one wonders what is going on at Malaysia Airlines. Some one needs to speak with one voice and only speak confirmed information.

in not so teched up countries, like getting around the amazon, people use planes like driving a 30 yr old stock car

can not figure where else it could be other than in the ocean

improper made planes that correlate to wallstreet ain't ever gonna be good for business unless in the short term to get a better stock price
