I need to clean some engine parts, and in particular, a transmission that went through a blown head gasket. What is a good degreaser to use that doesn't have ill effects on the environment and animals, since we have 2 dogs at home.

Thanks.

Be careful with that purple power stuff on aluminum parts though. the effects can be pretty nasty if you let them soak too long. I'm partial to the simple green

I agree with the Simple Green, sure there might be more effective degreasers buch I think it does a great job AND it very enviromently friendly. I use all their product from Simple Green Concentrate to the car wash soap. Great stuff.

Having a degree in auto body. It is my experience that the simple green is the better choice of the 2. But for a safe alternative that will only make your dogs pucker a little bit more. The orange citrius cleaner is the safest. It works but not as quick as the simple green. I used it on my 77 pontiac when I bought it and it worked well with the engine warm. Also alot of car washes will allow you to use it also. Just make sure it'* the real stuff and no feeding ti to the dogs just to them pucker.lol
