Even if you could vent the exhaust inside, your filter idea would be a fire hazard. I don't have an exact number, but most dryer fires are due to lint buildup.
Besides, how much do you use your dryer that it could become a reliable heat source??

Kinda along the same lines... I always wondered why gas stoves are OK to use indoors. Think about it. Same basic concept as a furnace or dryer. But, the gas stoves don't have to be vented to the outdoors. :?

i think that the answer has to do with use..it would make sense that a gas dryer would use more gas/create more exhaust than a range would. but at any rate chemsitry says

My buddy actually does use his dryer to heat the basement when we're playing pool/darts/drinking, but his is electric. The only downside we've found is that if we do that when clothes are actually drying, there is an incredible amount of moisture that gets spued about everything down there. It works better than one of those little baseboard heaters though.

Moisture: Thats the main reason for not venting you dryer into the house. Mold loves damp warm basements and once you get it its a bear to get rid of.
The dryer alone wouldn't put off enough co to be a big worry. Anyone ever die from leaving their oven running for 12hrs on turkey day? Yup, your oven'* not vented usually...
