I've always been behind the curve (just got a 7600GT AGP) but I hated my last 3 ATI cards and after finally making the switch to nVidia, i'm never goin back. I don't have a single game that conflicts with the nVidia. The dual monitor support is buggy though when trying to run an old tv with it.

I actually once bought that standalone power supply. I plugged it in, started, it, shut it off, and then returned it. It has cheap capacitors with horrible voltage fluctuation. If you want long-lasting overclocked, even if factory overclocked, video cards, hitting the voltage controllers with unclean power is not a good way to go about it. You can always just get a large power supply from a trustworthy company, you know. What happens when the Thermaltake dies while the rest of the PC is running? I do understand the concern, though, so there are lots of other accessory power supplies out there that you can use.
Those 8800 GTs must be awesome! I prepaid $5 for Crysis last spring, so I'm going to see how far that can get me now. Probably $5... Also, the 7600GT isn't a bad card at all for its time. It'* actually pretty phenomenally fast! A friend of mine has the GS, and it'* fairly good as well. No match for the awesome, high end stuff that'* been mentioned every now and then here and in a couple other threads, but it runs Oblivion at 1024x768, so it passes!
What do you guys think of the dual 3850 video cards pretty much tying the 8800GTS 512MB? It'* cheaper just to get the 8800GTS!

I think im good for a power supply. im using this.
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...?EdpNo=2700093
didnt even know stand alone existed..
i did solve the issue.. new cpu..
my original cpu was pentium d 3.0 ghz dual core. 800 mhz fsb.
i purchased a core 2 duo.. 3.0 mgh.. 1333 fsb.. more juice..
video runs smooth in that game now.. and seems better in others..
i guess the point here is make sure you have enough power supply to run what ever card you decided.. as they are really power hungry..

I had a 650W Silverstone that couldn't run an 8800GTS 640MB, four hard drives, Core 2 Duo E6600, 2GB of memory, 4 cold cathode lights, some accessories, and so on. It just barely pulled it off, but in game, the PC would restart. I knew immediately it was the power supply, and unplugging the cold cathode lights solved everything. My 750W Silverstone pulls it off just fine, though. Now that I'm upgrading, I'll see how it works out...
