Default Turn signals

i know it'* not a Bonnie, but my daughter just bought a 03 Grand Am GT (keeping Pontiacs in the family). Here is the issue, and it doesnt do it all the time. She said she will be driving along and the turn signals sound like they are on, but there not. Only does it for a short time, and she said there was actually a few wisps of smoke coming from the steering wheel once (that part hasn't happened since). The turn signals DO work, just curious as to what the problem might be. Thanks for any help.

John..that sounds like some sort of issue that should be looked into asap. Smoke etc is no joking matter inside the car.

Sounds like the multifunction switch (our Classics have the same issue) I believe its the over-greasing and dirty contacts that cause the problem.

John Wikoff posted a fix from a GA GT club a while back IIRC
