Not the same. A Quad4 is clearly defined on the engine cover, or it'* not a Quad4. There are other GM 1.8'* and 2.0'* that are not related.

wow I always wondered what you'd get if you made a v-4 engine. Why don't they make 4 cylinder engines in that formation these days? It would really take up less space on fwd applications. I bet they even sound better than inline 4s.

That picture of the motor in JF'* Sunbird was actually Brazillian sourced...forgot who actually manufactured that motor, but it wasn't stateside GM.

Inline engines are naturaly smooth and have higher torque output when compared to a v-type engine of the same displacement. A V4 engine wouldrequire extensive vibration control, and really why would you need an engine with such a small footprint? It would almost be like a Metro engine in terms of footprint size, and even that motor was too small for that car :?

I think the only manufacturer left that makes a non-standard 4 cylinder is Subaru, and even though it is an opposed-cylinder design, in theory it is still an in-line engine.

I use to have a GA with the Quad 4 in it. That thing could haul some *** stock.

Ford of Europe made a V4 engine for a while back in the 50s and 60s. It was somewhat popular in little tiny econo cars, where the space savings mattered.
SAAB had a V4 in their Sonnet I and II sportcar models, but they weren't a good motor at all.
And I think Yamaha used a V4 in some cruiser bikes, V-max I think.
