So I was talking with a workmate and he was having problems with power loss under load.
I suggested the usual......change your spark plugs, wires and fuel filter.

He changed his plugs & wires and the problem was not quite resolved. :?

So last weekend on my home in my T/A I started experiencing similar symptons. It would pull up to 3500 rpm then stutter like it hit a rev limiter.
I changed my plugs and that didn'd resolve it so i then changed my fuel filter and magic, the power was restored back to wheel spinning glory.

Tonight my buddy is changing his fuel filter. :P

The fuel filter is one of, if not the most overlooked maintenance item on every vehicle. Many of my customers don't even know they have one. I've even seen them so plugged that the vehicle doesn't start anymore. The fuel filter should be changed every 40,000 km (something like 30,000 miles) as part of proper maintenance. It'* easier on your fuel pump, too!

I would love to change out my fuel filter, but the lines are so rusty that the mere thought of undertaking such a work load is horrifying. But the results, I'm sure, would be pretty decent. Thanks for letting me know about that filter change helping you out so much, though. I saw recently my fuel pressure was just slightly lower than stock, so I went back to the 2.8" pulley. I know some guy that works at AutoZone who recommended to me that I just straightpipe the gas line instead of using a filter. He showed me his car, a very, very riced Honda, that runs fine without one. Strange guy.

I would not suggest running without a fuel filter. I think maybe relocating it to under the hood with a reusable filter would be the way to go. One of these filters would be perfect.

The filters are there for a reason...to filter. They absolutely should be changed. My father-in-law refuses to change them for some reason. He'll run his cars well into the 200Ks without changing the fuel filter.

We had a 92 Cutlass Cierra with the 3300. That car was such a dog that we renamed it the Gutlass....until I changed the fuel filter!! Sprang right back to life.

Very good to know. That guy no longer works at Auto Zone, but I'll be sure to offer him some fuel injectors satirically since I'm sure his don't last too long. Then again, he might actually clean them very often.
