From what I read, they STILL have problems.
It'* a problem for those who don't follow their oil change schedules properly

(Synthetics) every 3,000 and it is very very seldom an issue. It is also somewhat difficult for it to "still" be an issue as the MZ series V6 was discontinued with the introduction of the current Camry with Toyota moving onto the GR block, and the * series I4 was gone with the arrival of the previous model, being replaced by the AZ series. Neither of the two newer motors have been known for sludge problems at all.

Its not an oil change interval problem if people change theirs every 3k and its still sludging up. Thats called bad engine design.

Now you're just being an apologist. Dont get me wrong, I dont like some of the things that GM does, but Toyota isnt the saint you are making them out to be.

I still fail to see what you're saying when it'* "still" a problem. The current GR and AZ series engines are not known for sludge. Where have you found cases of owners changing their oil on time and still getting sludge?

Don't get me wrong either, I'm not trying to make Toyota a saint. I did, after all, help run a Toyota Cressida forum where the motors (also used in Mark III Supras) were known to blow head gaskets due to too low of a head bolt torque from the factory.

I just feel that for anybody here who calls Toyota as not being reliable, well:

BC is more or less a good board when it comes to cross-brand discussion, you should see the GM defending I do at ToyotaNation

LMAO!

You'se guys are funny sometimes when it comes to defending car manufacturers..

I'm guessing you didn't read either article, did you?

If you read my post, I only wanted to show some issues Toyota was having that paralled issues that GM has had and gets some regular flak for here on BC. Note the intermediate shaft issues, for example. My post was not meant to be an attack on anyone or any manufacturer. It was informational.

Nor did the post attempt to be all inclusive as to the number of Toyota recalls. I'm sure there have been more than two, but then that wasn't my point.

If one takes the time to read the articles and some of the many others out there on the mighty interweb, the main thrust is just that Toyota, like any other automotive giant, is experiencing some growing pains. How they respond and resolve these current issues will affect them going forward, as there are many companies on their heels looking for any larger piece of the market.

As to how the numbers were counted or whether these reflect a larger percentage of their total production, that'* for someone else to discover, I didn't write the articles, nor did I attempt to verify any information.

I do, however, find it humerous to see all those that are driving imports jumping to the defense, though I don't recall that there was an attack...lol.

Cheers!
