Is there such a thing as "too nice?"
For years, I have been told that I am too nice to people, both professionally and personally. I have always brushed it off, thinking to myself that the world could use a little more "nice" and since I'm such a great guy, who better to bring smiles to the world
Recently, I was told by a co-worker, whose opinion I value, that my "niceness" was coming back to bite me. This was in reference to some "over and above" customer service I had performed. No free merchandise was injured or given LOL.
So does it pay and reward to be "less than friendly and giving?"

I'm one of those people too. It'* not a bad thing at all, until someone tries to take advantage of you.
I had a bank teller transfer $3,900 into my bank account instead of $390 and I immediately went back and told her of her error because I'm sure that she would have lost her job. I'm not going to profit off of someone else'* mistake/misfortune!

I'm way too nice too. Every new year'* I make a resolution to be meaner, but it just doesn't stick
Oh well, I'll have to manipulate through kindness I guess. I can be mean, it just takes a whole lot to get me there.

I think when "too nice" translates into "getting stepped on" that'* really too bad. I have found that, at least in my life, it pays to be nice but you have to make sure to have a backbone enough to not get run over by everyone else. I used to be too "too nice" and tried to make everyone happy. Now, I realize thats just impossible. I try to be nice to everyone, unless they give me a good reason not to. People that have known me over the last few years, though, have found that I won't let people walk all over me-I'm not quite *that* nice.
I wouldn't say that I'm too nice....my personality is summed up very simply:
Everyone is innocent until proven guilty!
I'll give everyone a fair chance and treat everyone with respect until they do something to make me feel otherwise.

I agree with PJ. I try to be nice until someone takes advantage of me and then all bets are off. I try to be a people pleaser but sometimes you just have to accept that you can't please some people. I would say to keep being yourself and learn to recognize if someone is taking advantage of you....if so- nip it quickly.
