Seems like maybe his wrist has the problem, or his metacarpels.

But at the same time you don't want to run off the the er for every little bump and bruise. That is why insurance rates are so high as it is. I hear people bitch everyday about how high their rates are yet they turn in claims on every little thing. Insurance is meant for the big losses/illness'. If you are young you may not realize how much insurance costs people. I haven't had health insurance in over 8 years. I am on the "Grace of God" plan. My family has to fight with me to get me to go to the doctor.

If it was broken you would know it. Keep it on ice for 20 minutes and then remove ice for a little while and ice it again. Keep it elevated and don't put strain on it. It will heal. When my son wrecked his car he thought he needed to go to the er but I knew he wasn't hurt and I knew he would be sore for a few days. I am fiercly protective of my son and if I thought for one moment he needed care I would be the first one to take him.

Like my dad told my brothers- "Be a man, tough it out"
