Yeah my work history isn't the greatest. Since 2002 (first started working) I haven't had a job for a full year. The last job I had was February 2006 and that ended June 2006 on some B.*. Right after I got off my probation period. I graduated from high school in 2003 and started college since then til now. I got a year or so of schooling left and just need a job now to hold me over or until I get my A+ Cert. in January. So it might be best to leave my employment history kind of blank huh? A staffing service said they couldn't even help me with job placement! :?

Walgreens uses a third party service for background checks, and it'* pretty indepth. They're also pretty stickler on a few things.

When I was an HR Manager, I never called past employers. We ran criminal backgroung checks and drug test only. What we always looked for was a consistant employment history, no gaps unless they were explained like... "I was attending school".

I have had consulting firms call me for references of former employees. The firm would be trying to place the employee in a consulting position.

Also be prepared to take a drug test. A urine test is good for the past 30 days or so. A follicle test can read back close to 6 months with a 3in sample.

Go on many interviews for practice. Even if you don't care for the job, just go through the interview process to get the bugs out.
Think of the person giving the interview as an equal, not someone more important than you. You want to find out about the company as much as they want to know about you. Be honest.
Research the company you are interviewing at.

It is customary not to list irrelevant employement in your resume. ie - if your going for a mechanic position theres no need to list your paper route or McDonalds experience unless you did something there that demostrates experience as a mechanic.

Work History is just that and no they won't really have a way to know otherwise thou you may have to explain the larger gaps in your employment.
