Um, I don't have the AWD one, but it cost me $4 more to insure the explorer due to it being a 4x4. I pay a little more than $400 (basic insurance + roadside assistance) every 6 months. Which engine does it have?
mines had the AWD but my pops payed for the insurance i'll ask him how much it was

So, that should help a good bit with traction? The Grand Marquis I used to have had the whole one wheel wonder and had no snow traction, but somehow I made it.

I know the Mark VII has the HO 5.0 (Mustang engine) and is a good deal more powerfull than the Marquis. I hope the trac lock will help. I'm considering it cause it has good power and a nice JBL sound system. I DON'T expect the stock 5.0 even in HO form to compete with the L67. I just find the Grand Marquis a bit sluggish on hills and hope the Mustang engine can overcome that.

It doesn't bother me driving RWD year round. It'* all I've had my whole life. I strongly feel the TL rear end gets around a lot better than the open. Considering it'* a stock car(no doubt), the EEC should pull timing on initial accel making it easier. Glad your coming to the Light side of the force

Again, as I said, check the pumpkin. It'll have a little metal tag on it stating something like 3L08 or 3L27, both being TL versions. Non-TL would just be 3 27.

RWD + snow is bad. Unless you have blizzaks then you have a chance.

either way a $400 bonneville would probably be a better option considering the FWD aspect.

Ehhh.. i've always liked Ford. That 89" Grand Marquis was one heck of a reliable car. Just want more guts. Hence, the Mark VII + it has 4 wheel disks.

I had a 93 MarkVIII and it sucked in the snow even with the standard trac lock and trac control. I would not suggest it for a winter car.The moutaineer comes with awd full time only and will burn more gas than you would think for that small suv. Your 97 lss is no spring chicken. let it be a beater and save for a newer car.

Not true. It just takes a steady foot.

For what it'* worth, I drive on the cheapest rubber I can find. I'm not trying to claim anything other than RWD isn't as bad as it'* made out to be. I feel the biggest problem with RWD and snow is only when it'* extremely wet snow and about 5" deep.

Winter time is for pussies around here. I have a 4 wd truck, and I used the 4x4 TWICE last year, and even then the roads were fine, I didn't need it.....I just wanted to use it. I could have done fine in a RWD.

You don't have to worry about it man, you'll do fine.

I don't know if this has any relevance to your choice, but look at it this way....

YOU CAN DO DONUTS WITH RWD!

Man, its a 1 out of 587 cars. I see one a year for sale in the country!!! The */C LSS is a collectors car in the making. Mine just needs a lot of work. Think of how rare you're GXP is. Would you consider it a beater? I sure hope not.

I know. I'm more asking folks on the reliability of the Mark VII than its ability to handle winter. I can hanle our winters in damn near anything. People make way to big of deal of our winters.
