I know the Mark VII has the HO 5.0 (Mustang engine) and is a good deal more powerfull than the Marquis. I hope the trac lock will help. I'm considering it cause it has good power and a nice JBL sound system. I DON'T expect the stock 5.0 even in HO form to compete with the L67.

Again, as I said, check the pumpkin. It'll have a little metal tag on it stating something like 3L08 or 3L27, both being TL versions. Non-TL would just be 3 27.

I had a 93 MarkVIII and it sucked in the snow even with the standard trac lock and trac control. I would not suggest it for a winter car.The moutaineer comes with awd full time only and will burn more gas than you would think for that small suv. Your 97 lss is no spring chicken. let it be a beater and save for a newer car.

For what it'* worth, I drive on the cheapest rubber I can find. I'm not trying to claim anything other than RWD isn't as bad as it'* made out to be. I feel the biggest problem with RWD and snow is only when it'* extremely wet snow and about 5" deep.

Winter time is for pussies around here. I have a 4 wd truck, and I used the 4x4 TWICE last year, and even then the roads were fine, I didn't need it.....I just wanted to use it. I could have done fine in a RWD.
