I feel the same way. I also feel that it is gender biased. I am a male but I feel that I may have done better than an equally competent female simply due to the construction of the test. For the most part though, the ACT seemed to weed people out pretty well. All of the pseudo intellectuals got beat on pretty hard. Most people just BS through school so I felt like this was decent at seperating BS from actual knowledge. A BS on an ACT only results in a 14(this is what a monkey got on it). For my friends anyway, the test was reflective of their level. I was not surprised by any scores. Some people are extremely bright and just do not apply themselves in school and then do well on the ACT but this is to be expected. I am guessing you all do not feel that the ACT is at all reflective?

EDIT: I reread your post Petraman. It seems that you are saying that intelligence cannot be tested for, but knowledge can. If you are truly intelligent, you will seek out knowledge, and it will be reflected in your tests. Am I missing something?

EDIT: Jeff, so I guess you would agree that intelligence cannot be tested for. I feel the same way but I also feel that the above statement to petraman is true. Why would a truly intelligent person not seek out knowledge? Also, I realize there is a difference between a standardized test and an IQ test. Because I feel that intelligence leads to knowledge though, I feel that a standardized test will reflect intelligence.

Intelligence has nothing to do with seeking out knowledge. It'* more about problem solving and comprehending ideas, so in my opinion, a true intelligence test should not test knowledge at all, rather your processing abilities. In my opinion, a simple math test is more appropriate as an intelligence test than the ACT is. From what I'm getting from your reply, you're saying that if one knows more about pop culture than someone else, we can assume that the first person is more intellegent?

An intelligent person won't seek out knowledge? Why? They must think it advantageous to lack knowledge. Problem solving, comprehending ideas... sounds like being intuitive to me, a characteristic of an intelligent person as well as a valuable skill when taking tests. A large portion of the ACT is a "simple math test". No, a test of intelligence cannot be focused on a single subject. This is why many different subjects are included in standardized tests. Yes the tests have flaws, but I really don't think they are as poor as some construe them to be.

B2, he wasn't saying intelligent people don't seek out knowledge, he was just commenting that an IQ test shouldn't TEST knowledge, rather, it should test the ability to process new information and use it to solve a problem.
