turns out it was a 2wd...

i went out test driving trucks all day today... ALMOST ended up in an 04 Explorer XLT, but couldnt quite afford the payments.

We drove about 10 trucks and decided that we definately want an 02-04, if we can find one in our price range which is highly dependant on trade for the Aurora.

The AWD or 4wd was available on the 4.0L Take them both for a test drive Just depends, the sport models are obviously tougher to get into the back seats. dude, I'm telling you, go over to www.Explorerforum.com ; I'm sure they'd have more insight

BUT, I think you're making a wise choice in what you are looking at
I agree, give an Explorer forum a shot. They would know more about the quarks of the different year models. With any 4x4 get the trans and t-case checked. I would tend to stick to newer and/or non-first-year styles, but at the same time I would get whatever I would prefer to drive.

after driving so many, i really dont like the pre-2002 at all, they feel alot smaller (and are smaller) and they dont drive NEARLY as smooth..
