And you were driving while you unbuckled your seatbelt, zipped your jacket back up, and was trying to buckle back up? It would seem that would require that you take your hands off the wheel at least once to do that. 15 seconds? How long does it take to get into an accident, especially when not paying attention to your driving?

Here in New Hampshire, it'* not manditory (live free or die) unless you're in a commercial vehicle.Of course I wear mine all the time even when I'm not in my work truck.
Good idea, these topics have a way of getting out of hand and ending up locked.
NiKo=After verbalizing my argument, I just gave in and accepted it simply because I thought about his POV. Not that big a deal, it'* just a matter of principle I guess.

I got a click-it-or-ticket ticket last year in a Grand Blanc trap. It sucked, let me tell you. And there'* no point in arguing. I did break the law, afterall. Plus, last year I got pulled over again for no seat belt. Talked my way out of that one!

In MN they can pull you over for no belts. And I've seen enough of what can happen without them, that I definitely wear 'em. Feel kinda naked without them.

Let'* get it out there. Anything in life is a choice.
As John mentioned...he'* seen the results with and without. With requires less shovel work after the fact.

Another part of the Cop'* POV:
Think about how many mangled bodies he'* seen in his career on the Freeways because people don't wear seatbelts.
It'* not a pretty sight. I've seen my share of them. This is why a law enforcement officer will NEVER give you a break on a seatbelt violation.
FYI, in OR, they can't pull you over for that alone. Some states obviously do.

If I remember right from school, MN cops can only tag if they pull over for moving violations, no equipment. Its a secondary violation, or has it changed in the past year?

in PA they can pull you over for not haveing your belt on.
up untill a few years ago it was only a secondery ticket if you had a moveing viokation, but they changed that.
im sorry to offend anyone, but anyone who has to be forced to use ther seatbelt is just plain dumb, this is a proven life saver.
its not only they law, its the smart thing to do!
semi off topic here, but they reciently changed the helmet laws here in PA, its no longer manditory, funny thing is , in the past year i know of atleast 5 guys/kids who have died and were not wearing helmets ,, makes yah say hmmm
