Well I spent the afternoon getting Cathy'* muffler changed (92 Acura Vigor). She had a
lifetime warranty and although the muffler replacement if free they still charge labour, material, shop supplies for a total of around $60.00 Canadian. That wouldn't be so bad expept she is having to replace the muffler every 18 to 24 months. This will be the 4th
replacement at which time I asked the Service Manager whether he felt that getting an average of 1.5 to 2 years out of a new muffler is rediculous.........well I didn't use those exact words. He told me to expect 18 to 36 months on a muffler replacement. In my opinion, that is just plain stupid. If I would have know better 8 years ago I should
have purchased a Bosal brand at less then half the price of what I paid for
the lifetime muffler and it would most likely be in need of it'* first
replacement about now...........not the 3rd.
Lifetime warranties sometimes aren't what there made out to be.
Ok end of rant.
Thank you and come again.

The purpose of the lifetime warranty is to make you feel good.
They know they are using a low quality metal and it will rust in record time. However they also assume that most people will not have their receipt or remember the warranty and come back for a replacement. In that case, they are covered by the labor rate. The labor rate covers not only labor..but cost of the materials due to the high price.

..and thats why I bought a used factory SSEi muffler. I know it'll last at least 5 more years AND i won't have to fight some store manager who insists on replacing $200 -$300 worth of pipes to boot or tell me my cat is bad when its not. BTDT
