Not to defend stupid celebrities, especially a Spears, but many turn to drugs/alcohol because they can't cope with the constant pressures/attention of being famous. I don't think that all are stupid enough not to know how to spend their money, and not that drug abuse isn't a stupid thing to do, but it'* a coping method.
