i was wondering exactly how much spam is generated by those "spam bots" that pull email addresses off of web pages and such. so, in a quest for knowledge, i have created the following email address just to see how bad it really is.

rj87spamtest@gmail.com

please do not send or refer to this email address, as i will not answer it, and will promply delete any messages sent. i will try and update daily.

It probably won't work. The lounge is visible to logged in members only. It'll have to be in a public forum.

gmail has separate addresses for spamming, don't they? I remember reading something like that on their site. Is that one of those, or did you just create a whole new account?

My wife used to get tons and tons of spam, I went and registered our own domain and used a hosting service that has an e-mail tool called "Spam Assassin" and it works great. It customizable and you can adjust the sensitivity. It blocks practically all the spam and what does get through can be added to a block list.

Yeah, Spam Assassin is badass. However, Mozilla Thunderbird'* spam control is GREAT if you don't have that bad of spam problems.

Just remember (and this is due to experience from my job) if you're going to order something online, make sure the seller can e-mail you. You don't even want to know how many times a day we get contacs from customers claiming "You never e-mailed me! This is fraud! Blah, blah,blah..." "Well, Sir/Ma'am, do you have a spam filter/AOL? Have you checked your junk folder? Could we try disabling it? See, there'* the e-mail we sent you *seven freakin' times!!!*" Unfortunately, the part between the *'* can only be said in your head....

Just due to my experience here, I won't use a spam filter. They're good programs, if used correctly. I just don't want the extra hassle of setting it up. Luckily, I get next to no spam anyway....

Yep, I have my ISP level filters disabled due to that problem.

Thunderbird just doesn't load hot-linked images [like images stored on a server].. unless you tell it to.

Great program..
