Default so who'* up for...

...a survey?!?!

I know, I know, but its for a good cause { school}. And what you submit will be used as a part in a 10-15min presentation about Internet downloading. I can't state now whether I'm for or against it so i don't "draw" a certain crowd. I selected BC for it since I know there are a wide variety of people here from all age ranges that can give some good input. How you feel about it doesn't matter, I just want you're opinions....the questions are below..ready?

1) Do You download music off of the internet?

a) yes
b) no

2) Do you download other media {games, videos, software, etc} off of the internet?

a) yes
b) no

3) If you answered "yes" to one or both questions above, do you feel that you are stealing from the artists or orginal creators of the work? Why or why not?

4) Do you feel in anyway that downloading media off of the interent can help the artists or creators? Explain {briefly, of course}

5) Do you pay for the software or service that you use to dowload software off of the internet? Do you feel that this makes the downloading legal?

6) Approximately how much media {music, videos, software, etc} have you downloaded from the internet?

a) 1 - 100
b) 101 - 1000
c) 1001 - 5000
d) 5000+

Thanks guys, as always your feedback is greatly appreciated!

3 no, i do not feel i am stealing from the artists or creators, because the record companies are the ones getting the shaft not the artists, and the record companies are greedy bastards that can go to hell imo
4 yes, it gets their work out in the open and exposed to more people and/or potential customers
5 no, im divided on it, if its something than itunes, it makes it legal, but if youre paying for p2p it still dosent.

Yeah, but artists make enough money and if the software wasn't so expensive I would buy it.
4) Do you feel in anyway that downloading media off of the interent can help the artists or creators?
Yes, it can broaden who listens to thier music and therefor increase the number of people who would attend a concert.
5) Do you pay for the software or service that you use to dowload software off of the internet? Do you feel that this makes the downloading legal?
Pay to download, isn't the point not to pay?
6) Approximately how much media {music, videos, software, etc} have you downloaded from the internet?

do you mean dollar value? or quantity? ehh, answer would be the same
d) 5000+

1 and 2 yes. For 3 - No, because if it is something that I really want, I will go out and buy it. It'* generally one of those..."if it'* free, ok - but I wouldn't spend any money on it." type things. Also, much of the music that I download isn't available in other formats.

4 - It can be quite helpful. For artists, there is nothing better than exposure. Many studies have shown that downloaders are also the largest purchasers of music. They can "sample the goods" before they buy. Same thing with software. I don't like paying for something that won't do the job for me. If I download it and like it...I'll buy it. If not, I won't waste my money.

5 - FIrst part, no. Second part - yes.

6 - Yeah, during what time frame? I don't do an awful lot, so probably A.

No, So far I have only loaded Shareware or software I've already paid for.

4) Do you feel in anyway that downloading media off of the interent can help the artists or creators? Explain {briefly, of course}
Yes, New artists in particular can get exposure through internet downloads.

5) Do you pay for the software or service that you use to dowload software off of the internet? Do you feel that this makes the downloading legal?
Yes. And Yes (because I pay for both the downloading software and the downloaded product.

6) Approximately how much media {music, videos, software, etc} have you downloaded from the internet?
a) 1 - 100
Your question wording could have been better as it was unclear whether you were talking about downloads of pay-for-use or paid software/songs or the "free" downloads of songs/software. I personally have never downloaded any free songs or software that could be construed as copyright infringement, since a number of family members are artists and they have to work hard for their royalties. But, I still believe that early exposure and "buzz" can be helped through free distribution of product. I also know that many college students download free songs due to financial contraints, and yet still purchase many of the artist'* products.

As for downloads, I was talking about all kinds whether it be free, paid, or pay-per-use. I left question 5 up for u to specify if it was paid or not. Any comments or explanations that you would like to include with your surveyr {like lash did} are fine and even encouraged.

thanks guys, this input really helps. I'll need the survey to be up until about tuesday night around 11pm EST....after that you guys can keep posting if u like, but i will have gathered what i need by then

Thanks!
