Well so I was over on my friend'* house helping him install his new speakers in his truck when i heard this SCRRAAAPE screech, thud. So I'm like WTF was that, so I walk down the driveway and see that there is a late 90s monte carlo with one of its wheel lodged under the front left fender. I asked the driver what happened, and he said it felt like it had a flat tire, so he took a look and said it was ok, so he continued on....so I took a closer look and noticed that 2 out of the 5 lug studs sheared off, ONE of them already had rust on it, indicating that this had been like that for some time, the other one had JUST happened and the remaining 3 lugs couldn't hold the wheel on. So that, and also the outer CV boot ripped apart, throwing all kindsa CV grease on everything, and the lower ball joint is what actually scraped him to a stop. Really very interesting situation, definitely something you don't see everyday. Here are some pics. Enjoy

a flat bed??? a stinking FLAT BED??? should have been a tow truck. Bad deal any way ya look at it but I would be upset if a flat bed was dragging my front roter/caliper on the ground like that!! (even though there could already be some damage)

Shouldn't matter though since he saved all that money not replacing two $5 wheel studs in the first place.

His rotor wasn't dragging, the design is that the car sits on the lower ball joint so that the rotor doesn't get messed up...

but as far as the guy...he had no idea of ANYTHING to do with cars, I had to explain exactly what components were damaged and what would cost about what. it was very obvious that that ONE tire there was newer than all the rest..and that all 5 lugs were torqued CROOKED. so naturally ripped right out. so i told him to go back to whatever tire shop did that tire replacement. thats some serious stuff, if he was on the highway he could have been killed. that is precisely why I like doing my own work instead of some two bit dumbass that thinks an impact wrench is fun to play with.and tony, it had to be flatbedded, because you can't tow off that front wheel because there is nothing there, and you cant tow off the back ones because the front wont roll. flatbed was nessicary. but i can say that alot of damage was caused to the fender when he dragged the car over the tire while i was trying to yank it out. then i slipped in CV grease and nearly got run over by passing traffic.

bad bad situation. i can tell you that if it was me, i would be back at that tire shop right up in someones face ASAP.

Well, they could have used dolley'* no? Not trying to make this into a towing debate. But with that said, they almost always use flatbeds for this kind of stuff. Anyway, even if the rotor was damaged, a $20 part is nothing in the scope of things here.

ok as a X towtruck driver this would have ben a flatbed job all day long i have ran flat and sling truck the front being that far on the ground it would have ben imposable to get the cross bars for the dollies under and cant get the sling under the core support and if you are not on a service call you cant break open a jack due to insurance my comp didnt do tire changes so no jack on our trucks anyhow that and the driver only gets payed a % of the work he dose so less time jacking with the front of a dead car the better for the bottom line less time on one means more time to get more on the truck for $ and he did it rite rear first in this situation but when he got the lower ball joint on he should have lifted the bed to get the nose off the ground and he should have backed the ramp to the rear tires and snuged the cable then let off the park break and pulled the truck under the car untill he almost had the front ball joint up then locked his breaks and finished that would have only drug the car 1" or so and mutch less damage and looked like the PRO he should be with others cars

duff, that is just about exactly what he did. he got it up most the way, figured that wasn't working....so he backed the truck up as far as possible...then he lifted the front up, stuck a block of wood under the control arm and then drug it up on the bed. so something close to what you said, but he definitely wasn't being careful, he coulda done a little more to not finish off that fender. cause it was ok, then he cooked it. so i dunno.

it was definitely a difficult situation. can't imagine if that had happened on the freeway tho. wow.
