Right on, Twister. It'* about time the media recognized how much we actually DO for the world After all, it'* not like we HAD to help them, right? I hope those people over there realize this and remember our help a year from now when they're back to criticizing us...

Unfortunately, yes. They've already started, to a degree. And to think that last week they were criticizing the initial monetary pledge! We should have kept it at 30 million, sheesh...

Damned if we do, damned if we don't

Yea, I heard on the news that someone was criticising us allready.

Our government has pledged 135 million, which is like asking each one out of every two americans to donate a million each.

I am no big fan of the current administration, but i don't think they deserve to be bashed for not helping 'enough'. We should get ownership equity for such sizeable donations. Instead, we pass on a debt burden to our children and grandchildren, and get a heaping helping of guff on top of it all.

The US has pledged $350 million dollars last I heard, making 1 dollar from every American or so.

Canada has pledged $80 million with a total population of 30 million people....for a combined world total of now over 2 billion, but who cares who is saying what about America this and bashing that, the fact of the matter is its a global issue, the most powerful nation in the world is being looked at to set the precedent and/or benchmark for relief aid.

This will be good PR for the US no matter what.....however I believe we should refocus and realize there are over 150 000 people dead.

You are right. My prayers go with them. I just don't like our future being compromised by huge debt spending. Our country runs on fumes as it is.

Right, ultimately its the disaster that is sad. But the main picture is always overlooked. Yea, some money is going over there, but food,supplies and man power is what really counts right now.

The part that really worries me is the lack of infrastructure and adminstrative...issues with getting the money there. The best part of the American contribution that I have seen is the use of helicopters delivering supplies to Banda Aceh...a completely devastated region of Indonesia.....the humanitarian aid is the one thing that will keep the survivors alive.

$1 or $1 000 000 dollars, seeing the people run to the chopper on CNN and seeing the people truly relieved to see those machines with life saving supplies really got to me.
