There may be two sides to every story, but I don't think it should cost more for a pain pill than it does to have an operation done...

There are two sides to the story, but unfortunately the other side doesn't get told. The hospitals he visited in Cuba were the ones that the rich went to. Ironic how he didn't show where the regular people went. I saw an episode of it on discovery or history, and it was disgusting. You want an honest opinion on universal healthcare? Ask Silverbullet, and all the people on the 2 year waiting list to see a doctor.

it may be flawed, but imop, a waiting list is better than the people that are denied simply bc the insurance company is maximizing profits at the expense of cutting the throats of fellow americans.

I agree that insurance companies are cutting costs, and aren't always fair (I'm about ready to file a lawsuit against progressive, because of the accident), BUT there is more than 1 insurance company to choose from, and I sure as hell don't trust the government with any more of my money. Medicare is broke, and they want to start another government agency about healthcare? I don't think so.

Lets face it our way of health care in the U.*. is messed up. It needs to be fixed.
Maybe universal health care is not the way, but something does need to be changed.

I'm very passionate on this subject and its hard for me to keep my composure, we (my family) have dealt with many insurance companies over the last 4 years, and not once have we been satisfied. Mostly we've been overly disgusted.

Something needs to change. I applaud Michale Moore for doing this movie, his views may not be the greatest, but at least its out there now, and more people can see how screwed up our system is.

OK, here'* my gov't-run health insurance story.

About 12 years ago, I was in Linz, Austria on a job. Late one night an employee of the client company was driving us back in his Seat hatchback from a...ahem..."club" We'd both had too much to drink, but luckily, at the time the BAC limit in Austria was 0.8% (no, not 0.08%...0.8%)

Anyway, we were crossing a blind intersection on a narrow street in the Old City, when we got broadsided by a Mercedes. My pal suffered a broken leg, I had a gash in my head. The guy in the Mercedes was OK, AFAIK, though he was far more drunk than we were, and got quite irate...he got taken away in a cop car :P

An ambulance took my bud to the public hospital, I stayed at the scene and gave the Polizei a statement, and the cop drove me to the same hospital about 30 min later. Within 2 hours after I got to the hospital, we were both fixed up and on our way, him with a cast and crutches, me with some stitches, and both of us with some really nice pills. No insurance paperwork, and no money changed hands. We took a taxi back to the hotel, stayed up the rest of the night at the hotel bar, and took the bus to the factory at 6am the next morning

Imagine that here.

My choice for health care is a hybrid universal/private health care system. We'd get rid of medicare and create a system that would allow for basic/intermediate health care to be covered by the government, and more advanced treatments to be covered by a private insurance agency. This is what most of the democrat party candidate are talking about it and I 100% agree with it. Also, I think that insurance companies should be more moderated by the government and that there should be some harsher laws concerning health care insurance supplied by employers. That'* my two cents
