Why is everything closed today? Banks are closed as well. I never remember things being closed the day after the 4th.

I have a lot of friends who are getting off work becuase of it. Maybe they feel gyped becuase they got Monday off last year, and the 4th fell on a Sunday. I also think its in part becuase people are known to drink and stay up at least until midnight shooting off fireworks, and you don't want someone who is tired and has a hangover showing up for work.

I think it'* a general rule that if the holiday falls on a Saturday, people get Friday off too...If it falls on a Sunday then Monday is the extra day off...this kinda applies to government offices, and many follow suit.
