Those that are 'guilty' or feel so in a failed or failing relationship cannot shed that guilt, even with forgiveness. Guilt is an emotion that has no solution.

Guilt turns to anger, and the guilty (now angry) person will strike at the most likely target, which in most cases, is the other half of the relationship the guilt originated in.
