Default RX8

I've seen the new Mazda RX8 on TV and in magazines, etc, looks pretty nice IMO....but just saw a commercial about it having a rotary powered engine. Anyone heard details about this? It'* the "Best new Engine of 2003", no pistons or pillars... Seems very interesting.

Yup it has a rotary. That was Mazda'* big push for the car, "Rotary is back."
Overall the car is pretty nice looking except for a few little things that I could car less about. Like the chrome gas cover with rivets.

The way the commercial was presented made it seem like the rotary engine was some new thing.

Not new, but rather reintroduced. Mazda lost a customer base when they dropped the RX-7. I don't think there are too many manufacturers that use rotary except Mazda.

Hard to find mechanics knowledgable in the rotaries as well as they are a pretty small market comparatively....

My friend John knows all about the rotary engines, down to each seal. He tells me all kinds of stuff about them. They are quite fascinating machines.

Small displacements put out gobs of power. There was a LeMans car with a quad rotor that put about over 700HP NA.

I would love to have an RX7 or RX8.

And I've heard some scary stories of how many RPMs they've hit.
13000 before it blew.

Man, these things are simply crawling all over in the Sauk Centre, Alexandria area. I HATE THEM!!! They are fugly as uck, but I do give them kudo'* for getting 238 hp out of a 1.3 naturally aspirated engine witha 6-speed manual and 196 hp with the automatic (torque is only like 155 lb ft though), and they are supposed to last almost as long as our L27'* (which probably are the best 3800'* made -least problems of * I and * II, alternators aside).
