Default Router help

how do i set up my router....linksys 4 port....hgih speed internet modem....i cant seem to get the computers internet to work..when i have it set up...what do i have to set the ips to...do i have to use the default gateway ip to get it to work or what...HELP!

Not sure about your router, but both of mine worked like this:

Your gateway will be the router, but usually the PRIVATE IP of the router. Probably starts with a 192. Each PC hooked up to the router must use this for the gateway. The IP'* of each PC should be set to AUTO so the router can assign IP'*.

You have to register the mac address of your router with the ip. Right now the mac must be looking at your pc mac address? or you change the mac address of the router to match the existing address.

Yea, you will need to do a lot of manual stuff on that Linksys. They aren't the most user friend routers.

Thank God for D-Link. It was literally plug and play. It automatically extracted my Mac address from the cable modem, and set itself up entirely. All I had to do was change the TCP/IP settings on my PC'* to Dynamic.

There are different settings depending on whether you have a cable modem or a DSL line.
