Default Red Curse

My 18 yr old daughter had her 3rd accident in less than a year yesterday. She had picked up 5 friends & they were going to the beach. She "couldn't stop fast enough when she noticed the stop sign". Oh, did I mention she borrowed the van because they couldn't all fit in her car. Anyway another van with the right of way hit them in the passenger side & rolled the van onto the roof. As you can see it was a serious accident & certainly a miracle that nobody was injured beyond scrapes & bruises.

In the good old days you would have gotten a phone call from the hospital with someone telling you there'* been an accident but everyone is ok.

Now-a-days everyone has a cell phone. You get a call from the accident scene & rush over there. Nothing like having an ambulance pass you on the way to the accident scene then seeing the van turned upside down. That'll knock a few years off your life expectancy.

Will the insurance company drop all of us or just refuse to insure her?

PS - The other two cars she had accidents in were also red.

If they were all her fault then you should start shopping now; you will get dropped and as long as she is in your house then you technically have to list her as a driver.

The same thing happened when my wife got into a series of accidents and is the only time Geico actually saved me money over other ins co'*.

I know what you mean about knocking a few years off. When my wife got in her last serious accident I got a call from a state tropper telling me they were taking her to the hospital by ambulance and didn't know what her condition was. Turned out to be whiplash and alot of bruises but sure made a wrenck out of me until I found out.

First of all, glad that your daughter and her friends werent hurt. Chevy cranks out thousands of vans, but there is only one of her.

I don't know about the insurance, I am thinking that the rate will probably increase, YMMV

Damn, glad your daughter is okay. And those tires look brand new, are those salvageable? Just curious.

My advice? I would seize your daughter license for a year or two. It seems to me that she was talking to her friends, not paying attention to the road. Even I'm 18 and I drive fast etc, I've been lucky not to have an accident
*knocks on wood*
Again, I'm really glad your daughter is okay.

Sorry to hear that. Very lucky that no one was hurt. I think I'll try to put off my 18 year old daughter from getting her licence as long as possible. That'* pretty scary.

Here'* a quick run down on the other two accidents.

She turned left in front of another vehicle. Claimed she had a green arrow. Totaled out an 89 Grand Prix & a 92 GMC Jimmy. Both of these vehicles could have been repaired but each one was probably only worth $1,000 - $1,500. Cars that old usually just aren't worth fixing. There were no witnesses & our insurance ended up paying. My opinion - you don't turn in front of another car green arrow or not. Duh?

The second accident really wasn't her fault. Two teens were running at an angle from a parking lot to a busy highway. One stopped & the other went into the 55mph roadway. The bumper hit him in the legs, he then hit the hood, bounced off the windshield, landed on the roof of the car & rolled back down in front of the car. Cell phone call. After seeing the car (89 Bonneville) I said to the cop "He'* not gonna make it is he? He told me he was conscious through the whole thing. Thank God. He ended up with a lot of surgical steel in his legs but we hear he'* doing quite well. They got a Lawyer within 5 days of the accident but a lawsuit hasn't been filed as of yet.

I went to the scene of the third to see if anything was blocking the sign. Drove down about 1/4 mile & turned around. There is something about 100 yards in front of the stop sign. It'* a yellow sign "Stop Ahead". Someone just shoot me! Is there a test for lousy depth perception? According to KBB the van is worth about $13,000. Damage to the other van I'm guessing will be around $4,000. Half a dozen kids getting checked out in the ER maybe another $8,000.

I think Popatim is probably right about the insurance. As long as she'* at home she'll have to be listed as a driver.
