Cobra as a brand is 'ok'. Not great, and certainly not worth that price IMO.

Go Bel or Escort. Or even Uniden (better than Cobra).

I've owned a good 20 in my driving years.

The Zilla has a Bel Vector 940 up front. It'* in that car for a reason.

Yeah I have one of those talking Unidens and a Escort 8500. The 8500 barely got used and flashed a service on the screen a few months ago but I have since had it fixed. A problem I have been having is the BMW seems to have a metal layer on the windshield and they left no spots for the radar detector to work

Anyway as far as detectors go the Escort really picks up lasers from far away and has saved me more than once. I have read great things about the Bel detectors as well.

I dont approve of speeding well over the limit but I do like to know where the police are hiding regardless of my speed.

if money is not much of an issue, than i would say go with Bel or Escort (theyre made by the same company btw)

they catch things ALOT better than other brands like Cobra etc.

I would never trade my Whistler Pro 58 for anything else under $250, except the Pro 78 (adds speech). I have never had good luck with Cobra out of the sevenish radar detectors I've tested or owned. This whistler has caught a cop a mile down a curvy road, and about a mile and a half down a straight stretch (just the other day, not too many straight roads out here).

Just remember, radar detector doesn't mean drive fast (often). It'* just a reminder that there IS a speed limit at the time that counts.
