Default Quickly, I need to know if I am making a mistake.

I am for one selling my Bonneville to one of my club members for a little of nothing. I made a deal with him to give him the car for a $1000.00. He offers me a job driving trucks again and I will be running a team with his cousin. He wants the car as soon as I start but he won't have the money until we start making runs in the truck. Should I make the runs and trust him to give me the money when we get paid or should I wait? Please, if you have any bad things to say, keep to yourself. I am trying to get some opinions here.

It all depends on the level of trust that you have with this friend of yours. How is his reputation? is he good for his word? What are the consequences if not paid? any contractual agreements or is it all under the table?

If you present him with relevant questions regarding the nature of your proposed business deals and he gives you acceptable answers then go for it. But right now I would be leary, you are giving him something for almost nothing. You have some decisions to make here Steve

How well do you know him? If he'* really pushy about wanting the car now, as soon as you start, and won't wait...I'd be a bit worried he'* trying to get away with it. Does he really need it now...does he have another car he can drive?

I'd write up some contract showing how much he owes you for the car..etc.. Maybe try and get a down payment. But I'd at least do that, and get his phone #, etc...so you can keep tabs on him. If he lives near you and ends up trying no to pay you...you have a contract and small claims court would be an easy win for you.

But obviously that'* also a PITA to go to court.

I've just talked to him and he said he is cool that he wait until we get paid. I went from $2000 to $1500 to $1000. Reason being, he is giving me another car(1990 SSE) and a job. He is reliable and yeah I did have some butterflies in my stomach with the earlier discussion. Everything is cool know. When we get paid, he give me a stack, that way I can pay the car dealer 700 and use the rest for his car to change the plates in my name. I do know him very well, just haven't work for him. I guess I can give him a chance with the job. Won't be long before I get another SSE this time with an "i" for the first time

Good news then. Glad to see it will be happening. I hate being in those positions where someone will be owing me money for a while and me wondering if they'll pay me. But in your case it sounds all good!

Now if only I can find that d*** that owes ME $$

I don't liek my car that much but I like it enough not to be a Jackass in a way. I know I wanted to have this job and all because I like to drive and he hooked me up pretty much but me not getting nothing to start off with, I wasn't sure if I was being bogus toward him. The deal started off with my car for a job with $1500 in my pocket. He didn't have it off hand so he wanted me to drive for him then I get paid. When he said that he wanted the car at the same time, thats when I started backing out off it. He is a cool person and all but I don't want to be no fool either. Thanx guys even though you two were the only ones on here that replied.

Here'* what i would do. He said he won't have the money till you start making truck runs. So.... It'* still your car untill he pays. Just keep it under your name for a couple of months till you have the money.. If you don't get the money, or he splits with the car. Take the car back, or sue.

Just be sure you get EVERYTHING in writing...that is your only recourse. Most states will not honor verbal agreements unless its recorded. Then again if your recording it make sure he knows...in most states its illegal to record conversations without both parties aware of it....unless your the government of course....
