Default Question for knowledgeable vets

I've been dealing with this problem for quite some time now, and making no headway with it. Hopefully someone here will know what to do. I'll do my best to cram in all the pertinent information in a short and understandable fashion.

While I was stationed in Guam, I re-enlisted and got an SRB, half of which was paid up front. A month or so later, I go to my next duty station, where it is found I am unfit for sea duty and discharged w/in a months time. Keep in mind I have passed all my PRTs, made rate, and obtained my Good Conduct medal (which is a pretty tough thing to do from what I witnessed). In a nutshell, I didn't ask to get discharged...I was forced out. I now, and have been collecting, VA compensation @ 50%, service-connected. I also obtained VA vocational rehabiliation, completed my degree, and obtained a VA home loan.

Despite all of that, DFAS intercepts my tax refund each and every year until the SRB has been recouped. I argue the fact that it was the militarys choice (in fact, I have the letter from the CO of the hospiatal stating "it is in the best interest of the Navy that he be discharged expeditiously"), however DFAS will hear none of it. All they care about is getting the money back. I have even gone so far as to write my Congressman, and even he can't do anything.

DFAS has finally said that because of my discharge code, they have to collect. If I could change my discharge code, to reflect one that puts the Navy as the entity forcing me out, they will stop collections and refund all my money that has been put towards the balance. So, I submit the necessary forms to the corrections board....and they lose my paperwork. I even have proof, as does the Congressman, that they DID receive it, but somehow...it got lost

I'm at wits end...please tell me that there is another way for me to go. I usually don't disclose my personal problems, but I know there are some seasoned vets here that might could point me in the direction I need to go in.

It'* the government. You're going to have to jump through their loops. Worth it in the end I'll bet. I have an idea what kind of money you're talking about. They offered me a juicy one that I turned down.

Its....substantial to say the least. Part of me wants to get it done and over with now, the other part of me says to wait until it'* nearly paid off....that way, I get major change back
