putting photos on a CD.,
I have many a photos I would like to write to a CD, for backup.
Problem is, I have not done this before and it is more a pain than I thought.
The photo programs i have are -
Microsoft Office 2003 picture manager.
Windows media player. (not a photo editor per se.)
InCD (nero express) (It is asking for a CD RW, all I have are CD-R)
Kodak EasyShare.
I have tried the drag and drop and about everything i can come up with.
Does it take some special 3rd party software to do this, or is there a way with what I have? I am running windows XP home version and have a CD RW drive.
After some of my own research and trials, I have come up with nothing.
When i add the photos to the record list in Window media player, it says "will not fit" on most photos, and the rest say "may not fit".
I have about 560 photos that amount to 260 MB. All are JPG format.

Yeah, you should be able to burn from a program with your drive. But I have Picasa from Google and love it (its free) which does the burn thing well.

Re: putting photos on a CD.,
Windows XP has this capability built into it, but a 3rd party software package will give you more options. InCD should be able to take care of your needs.
Here'* the directions from Microsoft (Q306524) with a few notes from me (in italics):
SUMMARY
If your computer is equipped with a compact disc (CD) recorder, you can back up files or folders to a compact disc-recordable (CD-R) or a compact disc-rewritable (CD-RW). This article describes how to back up files or folders to a CD-R or a CD-RW.
Copy files and folders to a CD
To copy files and folders to a CD:
1. Insert a blank writable CD into the CD recorder.
2. Double-click My Computer, and then click the files or folders that you want to copy to the CD. To select more than one file, hold down the CTRL key while you click the files you want.
3. Click any of the following options:
• Copy this file
• Copy this folder
• Copy the selected items
4. In the Copy Items dialog box, click the CD recording drive, and then click Copy.
5. In My Computer, double-click the CD recording drive.
(In essence copy the files you want backed up to the CD drive by the usual means)
Windows displays a temporary area where the files are held before they are copied to the CD. Check that the files and folders that you intend to copy to the CD are displayed under Files Ready to Be Written to the CD. (You'll see this only when there are files waiting to be written to the disk)
6. Under CD Writing Tasks, click Write to CD. (This is in the left pane)
7. After the CD Writing Wizard starts, follow the instructions in the wizard.
8. When the process is finished, the wizard displays a check box for you to choose to create another CD like the one you just made. If you want to create multiple copies of the same CD, click Yes, write these files to another CD and insert another blank, writable CD into the CD recorder. Follow the instructions in the wizard. NOTE: After you copy files or folders to the CD, it is useful to view the CD to confirm that the files are copied.
Have fun and keep those photos safe!
Corey

Well I get about 1/2 way thru and I get an error box say "D:\ is not accessable"
I am the owner of this computer with full rights, I am not doing this at work or anything.
EDIT -
It seems to be playing other CD'* fine. :?OK ferget it, I got the files to go to another drive.
I just had to enable CD recording. And I chose a place to put the files, on one of the partitions of the hard drive I never use....
CHRIST and to think I go to school for computers.
Good thing I know what I am doing...
