i agree 100% with the remote start theory. that was the first thing i thought of when i read the post.

I'm with Cheetah, Check and see if the hot prongs of the lighter are not touching the inside wall. This happens if someone plugs a power adapter into the lighter with too much force.

You really need a wiring diagram. Good luck!

Although the answer to my first post wasn't real clear on the remote start part, it would appear that if it has one, they're unaware of it and will have to do some digging to find out. He disappeared quickly last night after posting here, so I'm not sure if he'll be back for follow-up or not. He may have moved on to the GP sites.

Being a bit older than you youngun'*. the first thing I thought of was a stuck ignition switch, being stuck in the start position that is. Start has been interlocked to the brake pedal for many years and would also kill (almost) all the other circuits in the car and give all the symptoms you are seeing.

The Remote start idea may also be valid also and in modern time probably the more likely of the two.
