I honestly have to ask why? The Powerstroke 6.0L is not exactly the most reliable thing in the world. The Dmax and Cummins are much better from what I hear. No offense if you own one.

A guy at my work has one, the heads warped and he had to have new ones put on, then a week later the turbo blew out. My uncle is a fleet tech for the school board and he'* told me the 6.0L is the biggest POS Ford/International have ever made. (He loves the Duramax and Cummins, though)
Well, from family and friend experience.

My uncle has owned 2 Dodge cummins deisels. My sister'* bf has one as well. Exellent powertrain, but the auto trannies and rear end'* are garbage. If you look closely, I rate the cummins above a Power Stroke.

Duramax, that is one INTERESTING engine. I tend to hear quite a few horror stories from a friend of mine that works at a Chevy dealership. More along the lines with electrical malfunctions and smaller parts breaking. No real complants of trannys or rear ends though, which I find rather suprising.

Pre-2003 Power Strocks tend to have the most issues. Between seizing of the engine, to turbo'* blowing up, once again I have another friend that is a tech at a Ford dealership . The current Power Stroke motor tends to hold up MUCH better. Along with the bulletproof trannies and rear ends, they have quite a winner in my eyes.
Yeah, that is weird. I've always been told by ford techs that the 6.0L is junk and the 7.3L is great. But, its just from word of mouth that I say that (and family/coworker experience). Like I said, my uncle has always said that the Duramax and Cummins (engines only, since he maintains them in busses and the like) run like a dream. He'* always bitching about how the 6.0s are out of service.

As for the tranmissions and the rears on the Duramax trucks, you really can't kill an allison transmissions, but if you somehow manage to they are VERY expensive. I'm not sure about the rears, though.

Last i heard, Allison rebuild kits are NOT available, and can only be done by the factory. Then again, they don't ever need it either, and may even be fixed for free sometimes as well..

Here'* my top production/street car engines in no paticular order. Well, almost..
Hrmm.. half of mine are turbocharged..

The 6.0 is great, in theory. On paper it'* an impressive piece of engineering, and under ideal conditions it would be very reliable. The problem is real life isnt ideal conditions, they werent made to idle all day long as many fleet vehicles do, they werent made to be babied either, you gotta hit the gas and let em stretch their legs every once in awhile. the variable vane turbo and the egr system need to actuate, if you baby the engine or idle it all the time those things will never move thru their range, the diesel exhaust causes buildup and things jam and break, half of the course i took on 6.0 was diagnosis that lead to bad egr components.

You may be...the 7.3L powerstroke is great and reliable, the 6.0L is another story. I think they started using the 6.0L in the early 2000s.

You sure do, buddy. They started using the 6.0L in mid-'03, and those are BAD. They get bettter as time goes on...'05 they started being decent, but even now they're still having some problems. 7.3L'* are bulletproof.
