If I drove 55 on the freeways in Detroit I'd be run off the road. I-696 is a minimum 80mph in some places during rush hour.
Yep, exactly why I said my disclaimer. :P

But there isn't a metropolitan area for 170 miles around me. Rush hour on the interstate means 5 cars.

i used to do 80-85 in a 55 but ive reduced it to 65-70. Not because of gas, but to take it easier on my car.

Sorry, but its bad enough doing 55mph on a crowded highway. 55mph on a EMPTY FREEWAY surrounded by nothing but trees for a full 100 miles, it aint gonna happen. Im afraid id be doing 95-100 the whole time. Are there any cops out there on the kansas freeways? We are going out there in the spring in my dads car. He wants to do top speed.

I have never seen anything in the 30'*. The best I have ever done was get 28 mpg, and I was barely doing 60 with the speed limit at 65. It was really hard to keep it at 28. So most of the time I get around 14.5mpg. But you got to remember that California was built on hills and mountains (that'* why we get EarthQuakes). So this may have something to do with the millage. Always up and down up and down.
