Our Little Town
Our little town got hit with some horrible news today:
http://www.canfor.com/_resources/new...ie_Closure.pdf
This closure will put 450 people out of work directly, then indirectly there will be 2000 people who will be affected. No, PDad does not work for Canfor, thank goodness. This is a big blow to our little town of 4,500.

Well, that'* not good news at all...especially for a small community :? :(
Isn't that Cabfor'* second largest mill? I guess Houston will remain in production?
It'* tough going all around in the industry, especially since the SLA (Sellout Lumber Agreement). Why the Canadian Government ever signed an agreement like that is well beyond common sense. Sadly, I think we'll see more bad news in the industry.
Hope you guys are well.
Cheers,

This is very bad news and marks the begining of a very rocky road ahead for all industry not just forestry.
In 1992 lumber was $1000us for 1000 board feet.
Today its $240 and still nobody wants to build?
The Mackenzie Canfor operation takes 500 million board feet out of the market.

No the employee'* could never own the plant.
It costs about $400 to make 1000 board feet of lumber, turn around and sell it for $240?
As with most things the problems are political

Sorry to here about the job situation over there. They just seem to keep going away. My husband and I hate that he has to work thirds with the baby coming and everything but he has to keep it b/c there aren't any other jobs anywhere where we are. I guess all you can do is think positive and hope things start getting better here real soon.
