I read somewhere that buying a rent a car is like marrying a prostitute.
I found some humor in that.

yeah I feel the same about former rental cars, most people who drive those things do things with them they would not do with their own car, plus they have high mileage.

I saw a dvd once where some guy rents a convertible Vette in south Florida. He then takes the car to a parking lot and installs a Nitrous kit. Then precedes to street race it for the weekend.

Not all rental cars are treated like that. I'm sure it'* more uncommon for cars to be treated like that than you'd think. My ex rental has been just fine. lol

High millage? Around here they ditch the cars at 40,000 to 50,000. Thats what they told me too when I asked them.

I'm at 50,000 miles on my ex-rental.. had 26,000 left on the warranty when I bought it... so far so good. Except that it looks like someone took a knife to the defroster grid lines.

But as they say YMMV, especially if you pick up that car! Depends on what you get, thinking you'd be safer buying a minivan or a car rented out as a luxury like the Bonneville. That'* been my plan thus far...
