Default Oldsmobile Aurora, possible money maker for me.

http://springfield.craigslist.org/car/475200472.html

Why must Craigslist tempt me so?

Car books for about 2300 in "Fair" condition in my area.

Shift solenoid replacement doesnt look horribly difficult, I found a good write up on ACNA for it. I think I can handle it if I be patient.

The fuel pump thing Intrigues me, how can it run if it has a bad fuel pump? Im thinking its probably the common FPR issue I keep reading about on ACNA.

I would like better pics of the cosmetic damage, as nothing can ding the resale value much more than that in my opinion.

The only other problem, is that the only way I could purchase this car would be using Paypal and charge it to my credit card, which Im not opposed to doing entirely, but it could be a problem if I cant get the thing fixed and sold in a timely manner.

looking for some feedback and opinions. I have not talked to the owner yet, I may try to do that tomorrow. Also its about 2 hours away, trailering it home is an option, but would take longer to get around to doing, as I would have to enlist my grandpa, who is a busy guy. Im not opposed to driving it home in 2nd gear, if it will stay running that long.

I don't think I would get to excited until you talk to him and get some more pics of it.

remember that 95 was the first (and not good) year for the Aurora (I'm sure you know that)

A car can run with a bad fuel pump, it usually does not have good WOT performance, or it starts hard. (I replaced the fuel pump on my PA when I got it)

the shift solenois is inside the trans, you are comfortable with that? can you link to the write up?

Yeah I know 95 wasnt the greatest year for them, I also seem to remember the earliest ones requiring premium fuel as well.

There'* the write up, it doesnt look hard on paper, but the real deal might be another story. The farthest Ive ever been into a transmission is dropping the pan and changing the filter. Im not afraid, I just dont want to mess something up and end up with a 2 ton heap in the yard, or selling it for a loss for parts or something.

The fuel pumps can be found for pretty cheap if you search around, and IIRC there is an access door in the trunk. If its the FPR, then, its even easier. If you go see the car, you'll able able to hear the pump for 2 seconds when the ignition is in the ON position. Obviously, if its weak, there will be no audible prime.

As for a trans job, if you are confident it can be done, and you can do it, then go for it. You'll probably be able to fetch something for it, but, I'm afraid if those two issues are fixed quickly and painlessly, you'll keep it.

Well, if I like it that much, Ill sell the Intrigue! Its worth about 3500 last I checked, so that would work out even better haha.

But in all honesty, despite the V8 and features and such, I normally despise beige cars, they're just.....no.

Ill probably call and get the best info I can over the phone, and may end up going to look at it.

Alright just got off the phone with the owner, who actually sounds more redneck and has a heavier Missouri accent than I do

He says that it will start, but usually starts to shut off randomly when it gets warm, and has trouble restarting, so Im thinking "Oh yeah FPR" and I could tell he was a car guy, so I asked him about the FPR, he said he already replaced that but it was still doing it. He said the pump is extremely loud, and he only gets about 12psi on a gauge. So Im thinking the pump is in fact toasted.

Asked him about the transmission, he described the symptoms again, said it just slammed down into 2nd gear one day, and wont come out of it. Said he got it scanned and came up with a Shift Solenoid A problem, makes perfect sense to me, from my understanding there is an A and B solenoid, and a new kit comes with both.

Now on the phone he said the clearcoat damage was on the left side, on the ad it says right, I didnt call him out on it, I just asked him to take some pictures of the damage and e-mail them to me.

The only thing that bothers me now is the clear coat damage, he says its taken most of the fender and some of the hood, on a car that color it wouldnt be too noticeable from a distance, but cosmetic damage might make for a tough re-sell....

To top it off, from the sound of things, I would have to trailer it home, which isnt a problem aside from getting my grandpa slowed down enough to drive his truck down there, plus, pay for his gas...in a Ford F-250 with the 460 BB.....super.

Ewwww shes got the cancer! Its a real shame too, because the rest of the car looks great, and the only other cosmetic defect I can see in the pictures he sent me was a missing wheel cover.

I think the paint problems would really hinder my efforts at re-selling it for much of a profit, and I dont need a beater car, so yeah.

Its a shame really, but I think Im going to hold out for something a little better.
