Default New computer problem for ya

Heres a new one...........
I have every single update available for my computer installed, all the newest media players and such.

Its a laptop...no videos would work on it..nothing, sound, but just a black screen..in WMP or Real player..streaming or downloaded..

I had it at my friends place tonight, Joel. He messed with it, got the videos to work. I get home, try it, nothing, blank screen again, tried atleast 15 times, i go on remote assistance with him, they work suddenly, we disconnect, i try again..no videos....
they work ONLY when he is viewing my computer on RA.
WTF???

Sometimes, there is a setting in the video driver determining which device the (hardware accelerated)video is displayed on (integrated panel, external monitor, tv, etc) or what the 'primary' monitor is. Check to see if there is a setting to that effect in the advanced video settings. (display properties-settings tab-advanced button) I had that problem happen to me a couple of times. Set it to the integrated display panel and see if that helps.

lately I've become less than interested in fixing windows and just reinstall since I got one hell of a fast external USB hard drive for backup.

yup, tried this today, Laptop screen has video, LCD plug in doesnt.
Damn"

--------------------------

For some reason when working with a laptop display and an external monitor, WMP doesn't like to display an image on the external monitor. it will play just fine on the laptop display, but show a black screen on the external monitor.
