networking win 98 to xp

i got them sharing but i can only access the win xp from the win 98 computer but not the 98 from the xp. why

Are you positive you have the same name for the workgroup on both computers, and the same spelling? If so, be sure to reboot the Win98 machine then try again.

ok i see the win 98 computer from the xp but it says i dont have permission. i thought i did.

Right click on the folder and select "Sharing". Verify that 'Everyone' (its just you using the computers right??) has access. Otherwise, set up specific users for access.
