Default Networking question

Okay, so thanks to Don and Tim, I now have both of my home PC'* on line. Thanks to Haro, I have something I want to share on both of them.
So, uhm, how do I network them?
I just want a basic setup, nothing fancy. Isn't there a Network Configuratino wizard or something? Both computers are running XP.
Thanks!!

Plug them into the same router or directly connect them with a crossover cable. XP might just take care of the rest itself. if not, run the configuration wizard and let it find the network itself.

SO, just with that i can share files between the computers?
Maybe I was a bit vague in what I was requesting. I don't need to do anything special to see teh files of one PC on the other? Or will the config wizard do that automatically?
The net works on both of them now, it was just plug and post!!

The easiest way is to go to the source folder, right click on it, got to "Sharing and Security.." andd follow the prompts from there

I think you need to turn off windows firewall too. Since you have a router you really dont need it anymore.

xp sets up a shared docs folder automatically, so manually sharing a resource isn't necessary. as long as the pc'* have the same workgroup name, the shared resources should show up. just put your files in the shared docs folder.

you only need to network them because the old one doesnt read the disc I gave you, correct?

I would just get a new CD drive. they are a lot cheaper than a router

Ummmm...yeah.
Figured since I have the stuff, why not have a network.
Most of the pics and what not are all on one puter, might want access to those on the other one.
And, some of our saved documents would be nice to be accessible.

SO if this this shared folder has already been set up, where would it be. How do I access it?

double click my network places, entire network, microsoft windows network, and then your workgroup( should only be one). your pcs will show up and click on the one of them and there should be a shared docs folder in each
