those cars SUCK, my friend/neighbor has a black 97 grand am GT...hah, that thing leaks trans fluid, oil, ps fluid, brake fluid, coolant, about everything that can leak..does leak....stupid cars...

That car would not be worth changing the engine.
Is there any chance the engine could be fixed up enough to at least run?
Even if it leaks and is noisy? For a temporary ride, why not?

I had an 85 aries K that I did that with once, it ran like a turd, but It was around $500 for the car and a few parts I needed.

It might be a good little car to tag around town with until you get something better.
I would not take it OUT of town tho.

And don't go buying it and dump a bunch of money into it, if you can afford that, look into your chances of getting a dependable, used car. Some used cars are still in excellent shape, like Buicks

he wants it for a work car,,we would do the work,a good weekend and she'd be
in and out.

were going to do some tests on it, run it and look inside the rad bottle for bubbles
and do a compression test on all cyls.,,have a better idea then on whats going on.

Well he bought the car, did some tests turns out to be the H/G
no.1 cyl.,pulled the plug and it was wet with coolant,plus we did a comp.
check on all cyls. and they were all 195psi but that no.1 it was like 210psi.

symtoms were,, pressure in the coolant bottle(not running, cold)
and just a little white smoke out the tail pipe cleard up some
when ran a little. and coolant in the oil.

thats was all,,car runs dang good dispite the fact the H/G bad.

so hopefully the heads not cracked or warped...
i'll update when done.

were not changing the motor,,just doing the uper end gaskets, should
run fine then......
