Default Need some info on owning a shop-

Does anyone on here personally/ know someone who runs their own shop?
Nothing big and not a franchise?

What are some issues?
Lessons learned from start-up?
Major equip needed/ recommended?
Was a SBL needed to start?

I retire from the Navy in 5 years and All I hear and see is horror of car repairs. I'd like to open my own shop to do basic work and not scew over people doing it.
Also might open a place like I go to on base where you rent a stall with a lift.

Thanks.

I don't have much advice for you, but it would take a lot to start from scratch. My dad owns a repair shop currently. However, that business has been running for many decades, and after working there for about 10 years as an assistant manager, he ended up taking over the business.
